Description
Hot on the heels of award winning Hydrangea ‘Runaway Bride’, this brand new variety shares many of its best characteristics! Flowers are borne along the length of each stem, bursting from strong lateral buds to create the most free-flowering display you’ve ever seen! Hydrangea 'French Bolero' is a modern hybrid of 2 species, H. scandens and H. macrophllya – and just like its second parent, the blooms are large, changing colour with the acidity of the soil. In alkaline soils the blooms are pink, while acid soil will produce shades of purple and blue. With a compact, spreading habit, this deciduous shrub is perfect for lightly shaded borders, and makes an elegant patio plant. Height and spread: 100cm (39").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Hydrangeas prefers a position in shade or semi-shade, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively, plant Hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in ericaceous compost.
More Info

This variety of Hydrangea is a particularly heavy feeder, but demands less water than most macrophylla cultivars. Feed and water regularly, but avoid waterlogging the soil.

Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage.

Prune the old stems after flowering, leaving the new growth in situ, as this Hydrangea flowers on new growth unlike most others. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: All parts of hydrangea will upset the stomach if eaten. The foliage may also aggravate skin allergies.

Caution

Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten
