Description

The most theatrical of spring bulbs, Fritillaria ‘Orange Beauty’ is one of those special plants that puts on a performance to make you gasp!
Above whorls of strap-shaped leaves, rise dark, sturdy stems up to 90cm tall, which burst into a crown of pendant orange bells, topped with a spiky coronet. This strong variety has exquisite colouring, bearing deep orange flowers glowing with red undertones. It is especially reliable, growing to form large clumps in suitable locations. If you want to add some extra pizzazz to your spring bulbs, Fritillaria ‘Orange Beauty’ is a choice pick. Underplant it with deep red or purple tulips for a sensational display. Height: 90cm (36in). Spread: 20cm (8in).

How to Grow
Fritillaria thrives in reliably moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting to improve less than ideal soils. Heavy clay soils are not suitable, and in these conditions grow the bulbs in raised beds or containers. Plant Imperial Fritillary bulbs at a depth and spacing of 20-30cm in a warm, sunny position. Fritillary bulbs are fragile so always handle them with care. Apply a high potash tomato feed at fortnightly intervals after bulbs start to emerge.
More Info
When growing fritillaries, it is essential to allow their foliage to die back naturally as this will feed the bulb for the following year. In good conditions, the bulbs will grow to form large clumps that can be lifted and divided in autumn if needed.
