Years of selection means that we're now able to offer customers this very pretty and unusual-looking Dianthus. Unique blooms with deeply cut petals give Dianthus 'Rainbow Loveliness Improved Mixed' a soft, feathery appearance. These pretty, eye-catching pinks have a strong, sweet fragrance that makes them a delightful cut flower for a vase indoors. Compact and hardy, they will quickly form attractive clumps at the front of borders, or try planting them in containers for a low maintenance display on the patio. Dianthus 'Rainbow Loveliness Improved Mixed' will flower in its first year if sown by the end of February. Height and spread: 30cm (12").
Culinary note: Use the clove like tasting petals for adding to cakes, either for flavour or decorating, suitable for soups, salads and sauces too. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Sow Dianthus seeds indoors from February to April on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and keep at a temperature of between 18-20C (64-68F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination usually takes 14 - 30 days.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3") pots and grow Dianthus plants on in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatise pinks to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost. Plant Dianthus at a distance of 23cm (9") apart on any fertile, well drained soil in full sun. Alternatively plant Dianthus 'Rainbow Loveliness Improved Mixed' in containers on a sunny patio.
Feed and water Dianthus plants regularly until they are fully established. Deadhead faded Dianthus flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced throughout the summer.
