'Ferncliff Illusion' stands straight and amazingly grows over 5ft tall! These beautiful specimens flower in spectacular fashion, bursting open to reveal double white blooms with delicately blushed pink petal tips. Planted at the back of a border, or even grown in a large container, these dahlias flower from July to October and will repeat their stunning displays year after year. Height: 160cm (63"). Spread: 60cm (24")


Culinary note: All dahlia flowers and tubers are edible. The flavours and textures can vary greatly depending on the soil and conditions in which they were grown. Flavours range from water chestnut through to a spicy apple or even carrot. For more details about edible flowers click here.

How to Grow
Plant Dahlia tubers outdoors in April after all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny position in moist well drained soil. Prepare the soil by digging in plenty of well rotted manure or compost. Plant tubers at a depth of 15cm (6") and water well. Alternatively, start tubers into growth in pots of compost in a frost free greenhouse. Transplant them into their final positions outdoors in June.

Feed and water dahlias regularly throughout the growing season. While dahlia plants are still young, pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage bushier growth and masses of flowers. Deadhead faded dahlia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Bedding dahlia are generally grown as annuals, however dahlia tubers may be lifted in autumn and stored over winter in trays of peat or sand, in a cool but frost free position if required. They can be potted up the following spring.
