There are masses of clematis in violet and blue shades but fewer choices in red – Nubia is undoubtedly one of the strongest. Its combination of red petals and red stamens creates a rich, ruby red flower which oozes opulence. Nubia also has the advantage of being a compact variety which can be easily grown in a container or trained on a low wall. The single flowers are up to 15cm across and with correct pruning will bloom from early to midsummer followed by a second smaller flush in autumn. Pruning group 2. Height: 1.5cm (60in). Spread: 1m (40in).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. This variety of clematis flowers in late summer on the current year’s growth. Pruning should be undertaken in spring before active growth begins. When pruning group 3 Clematis, cut back all of the previous year’s stems to a pair of healthy buds at around 20cm (8") above ground level. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in order to protect the roots and conserve soil moisture.
