Description

There are big, bold plants which immediately grab your attention, and then there are those little shy and secretive plants which deliver a delightful surprise when you find them! Chiastophyllum oppositifolium is one of the latter. This tough, evergreen alpine is effortlessly easy to grow - squeeze it into secretive spots - little crevices and gaps in walls and paving – where it will happily spread its neat rosettes of large, fleshy, scallop-edged leaves. Alternatively, it makes a dainty feature in a terracotta pot, kept in a shady area of the patio.

In early summer it bears unusual racemes of sulphur-yellow flowers that arch gracefully, dangling prettily over steps, rocks or from the tops of stone walls. It flowers profusely, and the blooms are loved by bees. Plants will quickly bulk up, providing plenty of material for division and spreading around the garden to other hidden spots! RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 20cm (8in). Spread: 60cm (24in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
