Description
A hardy coniferous small tree with erect branches and radially arranged leaves to 8cm (3") long. Often called ‘Plum Yew’ as the female tree produces plum shaped 3cm (1¼") fruit containing a single hard seed surrounded by a fleshy green covering, the leaf shape resembles a yew. If fruits are desired then a male pollinator will need to be planted nearby. Plant in a shady position, will tolerate full sun but does not like very hot summer conditions. A hardy plant although protect from biting winds. Height: 5m (15’). Spread: 5m (15’)

How to Grow
Grow Plum Yew trees in fertile, well drained soil in partial shade. Cephalotaxus requires a cool, moist position with shelter from cold, drying winds.

Feed and water Plum Yew plants regularly after planting. Once established they will require little maintenance if grown as a free standing specimen tree. When grown as a hedge, Cephalotaxus should be pruned in early summer. Plants will tolerate hard pruning well.
