Description

Not much is happening in the garden in February, so this early flowering, exquisitely bi-coloured Camellia comes as a real treat. Winner of an RHS Award of Garden Merit, Camellia ‘Margaret Davis’ produces an abundance of double, ruffled flowers from February to April. Measuring about 10cm across, the creamy-white petals have a picotee edge of raspberry-ripple! A beautiful spring performer for a woodland garden or large container filled with ericaceous compost. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and spread: 4m (13ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Camellia plants require a moist, well drained, acid soil in a sheltered, shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow Camellia plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3 and position in dappled shade.
More Info

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Camellias occasionally with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as this may cause the buds to drop in early spring.

Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their roots from winter cold. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
