Calycanthus are handsome, hardy shrubs that certainly deserve to be more widely grown. Glossy, deciduous foliage covers the gently arching branches, creating a lovely backdrop for the exotic, magnolia-like blooms. This duo brings together two particularly fine varieties, both with a lovely sweet fragrance. Commonly known as Sweetspice, these unusual shrubs are ideal for woodland edges and lightly shaded borders.
Culinary note: Produces an edible and delicious spice. Snip off twigs and allow them to dry out in the sun or a low oven, then crush the bark and use like cinnamon. For more details about edible flowers click here.
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
