Description

English pot marigolds are a garden favourite - vibrant colours, heavy flowering and great for pollinators. Sadly they don’t last long, often burning out and going to seed at the height of summer. Our ‘Power Daisy’ changes that! Not only does it flower continuously into October, living up to its name this breeding breakthrough allows you to use calendula plants where you’ve never grown them before! A controlled, spreading habit, plus hundreds of yellow, orange, and new pale-yellow daisy-like blooms make them perfect for hanging baskets, patio pots or ground cover in the border for a mass of colour all summer long. Height and spread 40cm (16").

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Calendulas have a slightly peppery taste and will add a light, tangy flavour to breads and soups, as well as adding a touch of colour. They will make a bright and tasty addition to a tossed salad. You can use fresh or dried petals as an economical substitute for saffron for adding colour to rice or butter. The fresh young leaves can also be used sparingly in salads. For more details about edible flowers click here.

How to Grow
Pot up calendula plants and grow them on in frost free conditions for transplanting outdoors later on. When English Marigolds are well-grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before planting them in borders and containers in sun or partial shade.
More Info
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Deadhead faded calendula flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced and prevent them from self seeding. Culinary note: Calendula flowers are edible. The petals have been used as a substitute for saffron, and they make a bright and zesty addition to salads.
