Description

Grow this superb mid to late season cropper, Blueberry ‘Powder Blue’ and enjoy picking your own delicious, fresh and healthy blueberries at home. A perfect choice for combining with earlier cropping blueberries to extend the harvest season into late summer. Easy to grow and low maintenance, this attractive shrub not only produces high yields of berries, in autumn the foliage lights up in gorgeous shades of red and orange for added interest. Perfect for planting in acid beds and borders, or if you don’t have acid soil they’ll do just as well if potted into a large container with Ericaceous compost. The flavour of these firm and juicy berries when freshly-picked is undeniably superior to shop bought, they’re packed full of beneficial vitamins too. Eat them fresh and use any surplus to make tasty muffins, jams and pies. Not reliably self-fertile, best grown among other blueberries to allow for cross pollination. Height: 2.5m (8’). Spread: 2.5m (8’).

How to Grow
Blueberries require a well drained, acid soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow blueberry plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3.
More Info
If possible, blueberries should be watered with rainwater because the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Blueberries will begin to produce fruit in their third year. As fruits begin to develop, cover the plants with netting to protect the berries from birds. From their third year, begin to prune out the oldest stems each autumn to promote new growth and maintain a healthy plant framework.
