A native of Canada and Eastern U.S.A, Aristolochia durior is a vigorous, deciduous vine primarily grown for its exuberant foliage, which often obscures the blooms. Huge, heart-shaped leaves, up to a foot long, form a lush curtain of foliage, the leaves overlapping their neighbours to form a pretty, shingle-like pattern. From May to August, it is covered in a profusion of strange flowers, 3-4cm long, which are shaped like a Dutchman’s pipe, flaring out into greenish saucers mottled yellow and purple. They emit a heavy scent which soon attracts a busy hum of insects. After pollination, the flowers develop cucumber-like fruits. Ideal for providing a fast-growing screen of attractive foliage over a trellis, wall or house facade. Maximum height: 8m (26ft). Spread: 4m (13ft).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
