Description

Transform even the smallest of growing spaces into a mini orchard with Apple ‘Wonder Tree Elstar’. This innovative tree is super compact, yielding a harvest of delicious fruits in a small area, even at a young age. Apple ‘Wonder Tree Elstar’ can even be grown in a large container on a balcony or terrace.

Apple ‘Wonder Tree Elstar’ remains compact throughout its life so almost no pruning is required. Simply pinch the tips of the newly grown shoots several times with your thumb and forefinger in the spring and the tree will remain in shape.

The Wonder Tree range of fruit trees includes the very best fruit tree varieties, carefully selected for their flavour, disease resistance, hardiness and ease of cultivation. ‘Wonder Tree Elstar’ is an RHS award-winning dessert variety. Pollination Group 3: Self-pollinating, but more successful through cross-pollination with Cox's Orange, Delcorf, Golden Delicious , James Grieve, Pinova, Santana or Topaz .

How to Grow
Plant fruit trees in any well drained soil in a sheltered sunny position. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and drive the stake into the ground to support the tree. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball. Plant fruit trees at their original soil level and firm them into the ground. Fasten the tree to the stake using a tree tie, and water well. Alternatively plant dwarf trees in a large tub using John Innes no.3 compost. Apples will produce the best crops when planted near to another pear tree to increase pollination.

More Info

Fruit trees do not suffer weed competition well. Keep weeds and grass clear from within a 30cm radius of base of the tree. In spring, while the ground is moist, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around the base of the tree, taking care not to mound it up against the stem. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer. Feed and water apple trees during particularly dry periods.

Wonder Trees require almost no pruning. Simply pinch the tips of the newly grown shoots several times with your thumb and forefinger in the spring and the tree will remain in shape.
