Description

True blue is a rare colour in the garden palette and one to be prized. Anchusa azurea ‘Feltham Pride’ is an exceptional example, with deep ultramarine flowers that seem to almost glow in low evening light. The brilliant blue flowers are borne on tall, dark, branching stems from late spring to early summer above clumps of coarse hairy leaves.

Its exquisite flower colour does come at a price as Anchusa tends to be a short-lived perennial but with a little effort it can be encouraged to remain perennial and reflower for another season. Simply cut it back immediately after flowering to encourage new growth, or just leave it to self-seed and produce a new generation of plants.

This drought-tolerant perennial loves a well-drained soil and is perfect for gravel or Mediterranean-style plantings. It makes a good choice for wildlife-friendly gardens as the flowers are a magnet for bees and other pollinators. Anchusa also makes an attractive cut flower and its blooms are edible; try freezing them in ice cubes for a refreshing summer drink! Height: 90cm (36in). Spread: 30cm (12in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
