Originally bred for the floristry trade, you can now grow the elegant flower stems of this hardy Amarine in your own garden. This unique hybrid of Amaryllis belladonna and Nerine bowdenii brings the best of both species into one plant: vigorous growth, taller sturdier stems, a hardier habit and bigger flowers that last much longer in the garden than those of true nerines.
Hardy to -10C, these luxurious bulb flowers are best planted in sunny borders, or against a south-facing wall to provide much needed colour in the garden from September to November. Too much shade and they will fail to flower, so they can also be planted in pots or other containers for positioning in the sunniest spots of your garden.
The 'naked' flower stems appear before the foliage, making the Amarine 'Belladiva Collection' a striking design element to autumn flower displays. Flowers are sweetly fragrant and make impressive cut flowers displayed in a vase in the home. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 30cm (12").

Plant Amerines in a sunny position in sandy, free draining soil. These bulbs prefer shallow planting with the pointed tip protruding just above the soil surface. Amerines thrive when clumps become congested making them particularly well suited to growing in containers. When planting Amerine in containers use a loam based compost such as John Innes No.2 and position in full sun.
Water freely while Amerine bulbs are in active growth but during dormant periods, keep the compost just moist. After flowering, feed bulbs with a low nitrogen fertilizer. In winter, outdoor grown Nerines will benefit from a dry mulch, such as straw, to protect them from hard frosts. Move container grown plants to a warm, dry position. Amerines may be slow to flower in the first year or two until they are fully established. Avoid moving them as this may further delay the development of these colourful nerine flowers.
