Description

If you’ve run out of windowsill space then these air plants may be the answer! These fascinating bromeliads are epiphytes, living without soil in their natural habitat, often growing high up on trees, cliff faces and rocks. They obtain all of the water and nutrients they need from the air around them. Tillandsia can be glued or wired to a wood, stone or other supports, and need surprisingly little maintenance. This superb collection is the perfect introduction to growing air plants in your own home. Height and spread: 30cm (12").

Airplant Variety Collection comprises 1 plant each of:

  • Tillandsia brachycaulos abdita - Green, tapering leaves turn to bright red just before its blue flowers appear.
  • Tillandsia juncea - An upright species with a fine, grassy appearance.
  • Tillandsia caput-medusae - Snaking leaves are covered with a fine silvery down, giving a soft, fuzzy appearance.
  • Tillandsia ionantha - A firework of a plant with slender, arching leaves.
  • Tillandsia melanocrater tricolor - A colourful air plant with elegant, stiff leaves.
  • Tillandsia argentea - Silvery, hair-like foliage forms a loose clump.

Please note: Some houseplants are toxic or harmful to pets if ingested. If you believe your pet has consumed a poisonous plant then seek veterinary attention immediately. Take a sample of the plant with you.

How to Grow
These Tillandsia are epiphytic plants which do not require compost to grow. They can be wired or glued onto a suitable support such as wood or an attractive shell. Position airplants in bright, filtered light with good air circulation, at a minimum temperature of 5C (41F).
More Info
Water frequently from spring to autumn by immersing the entire plant in rainwater or misting thoroughly. Allow the plant to completely drain and dry after each watering. Feed monthly by adding a small amount of bromeliad fertiliser to misting water.
