Description

It's easy to see why Agapanthus are so well-loved by gardeners! These low maintenance perennials produce a stylish display of upright flower stems in summer, topped with globes of starry blooms. We've brought together three superb cultivars that tone beautifully with one another to create a coordinated blue and white display. Whether you plant them in patio pots or sunny borders, you can be sure of a performance that will always turn heads.

These exotic blooms make a real statement in sunny borders and patio container displays, returning each summer and getting better every year. The large spherical blooms are also magnificent in cut flower displays and their architectual seed heads continue the display well into the Autumn. Foliage stays green year-round, offering valuable winter ground cover. Hardier than most other modern introductions.

Agapanthus Collection comprises:

  • Agapanthus ‘Twister’ – The flowers are absolutely glorious, with crystal white flutes turning inky blue at the base. The huge globes of colour appear from mid to late summer, hosted on strong, sturdy stems that need no staking. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 50cm (20").
  • Agapanthus ‘Blue Storm’ - a neat, compact cultivar reaching just 76cm (30"). Masses of soft violet flowers are carried on stiff stems making this a superb cut flower. Height: 76cm (30"). Spread: 50cm (20").
  • Agapanthus ‘Pitchoune White’ - boasts equivalent large-sized flowerheads above a nicely compact plant that is perfect for small gardens or patio containers. Gleaming white, trumpet-shaped flowers rise above strappy, evergreen foliage. Flowering continues from mid-summer to autumn, adding late interest to the edges of sunny borders and pots where both the leaves and flowers lend structure to displays. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").

How to Grow
Grow Agapanthus plants in rich fertile, well drained soil, in a sunny position. When growing Agapanthus in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3 .
More Info
Feed and water African Lilies regularly throughout the growing season. Leave faded Agapanthus flower stems intact to enjoy their architectural seed heads during autumn. When the first frost blacken the seed heads, cut the stems back to ground level. Protect plants outdoors from severe winter weather by providing a dry mulch of bark chips or straw in late autumn. Container grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Divide agapanthus clumps in spring when they become over crowded.
