Description

Salvia 'Amistad' is a must-have variety that has become deservedly popular due to its stunning looks and superb garden performance. The deep purple flowers are carried on tall, near-black stems above a mound of lush green foliage. The flowers are dark but luminous, shining out as single specimens whilst also adding depth and heightening contrast when placed alongside brighter or lighter colours.

Salvia ‘Amistad’ is reliably hardy and incredibly floriferous. With regular deadheading, this magnificent hardy perennial can bloom almost continuously from May right through to October, attracting a host of bees and butterflies throughout the season. Ornamental Sage has long been a stalwart of cottage-style borders but ‘Amistad’ merits a place in every garden – from informal, wild-life-friendly gardens, to modern, drought-tolerant designs and exotic planting schemes. Height: 120cm (48"). Spread: 50cm (20").

How to Grow
Salvia plants prefer a moist, but well-drained soil in full sun, although once established they can also be very drought resistant. Salvia ‘Amistad’ will appreciate a sheltered position with protection from strong winds and particularly hard frosts.

Water regularly until salvia plants are fully established. Deadhead faded flowers throughout the summer to encourage more blooms to be produced.
