Brachyglottis, euonymus, vinca, ceanothus, varieties of erica, juniper, hypericum and sarcococca are all good evergreen shrubs for ground cover – you’re pretty spoilt for choice!
Plants that have open flowers, such as helianthemum, or those that flower early in the year, like Erica carnea, are great for pollinators. Choose shrubs with berries, such as cotoneaster to attract birds into your garden.
Euonymus fortunei varieties, Hypericum calycinum, sarcococca, Vinca major and Vinca minor are all happy in shade.
