Biennial plants are some of the most beautiful in the garden, from statuesque foxgloves to the highly scented hesperis. Flowering in their second year, they should be planted out in autumn to allow them to develop over winter. For a really stunning show, every border should include some of these beauties against a backdrop of evergreen garden plants and shrubs.

Biennials are suitable for all styles of garden. If you want to encourage pollinators, choose one of our foxglove varieties. Foxglove ‘Dalmation Rose’ is perfect for cottage garden style borders while foxglove ‘Alba’ looks fantastic as part of a contemporary, white colour scheme.
For early spring colour, we recommend wallflowers – try teaming them with tulips for a stunning display.
Good plants for pollinators include foxgloves, wallflowers and Symphyandra pendula.
For the earliest flowers, choose wallflowers. Our ‘Harlequin Mixed’ collection delivers a vibrant blend of pink, orange and cream blooms that appear in spring and last until early summer.
For a sunny spot, choose Hesperis matronalis, Lychnis coronaria, Monarda didyma and Salvia sclarea var. turkestanica ‘Alba’.
