Plant bulbs in the dappled shade of deciduous trees. The bulbs in this collection thrive in reliably moist, well drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting to improve less than ideal soils. Plant snowdrop and bluebell bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4”) and a distance of 10cm (4”) apart. Aconites should be planted at a depth of 5cm (2") and a distance of 5cm (2") apart. For natural looking drifts of flowers, gently cast the bulbs across the planting area and plant them where they land!
These bulbs require reliably moist soil throughout summer. Water them if necessary until they are fully established. When growing bulbs in the green, it is essential to allow their foliage to die back naturally as this will feed the bulbs for the following year. Where bulbs are naturalised in grass, avoid mowing the area until their foliage has died back. Caution: Bulbs are harmful if eaten and may irritate the skin and eyes.
