Description
The Dragonfli Plum Fruit Moth Trap provides a chemical free method of reducing Plum Fruit Moth numbers and can be re-used for many years. The Plum Fruit Moth ; Grapholita (cydia) funebrana is a common pest of plums, damsons and greengages. The female moth lays her eggs near the plum fruit and once the eggs hatch, the larvae burrow into the fruit. The caterpillar is pinkish-white and about 10-12mm long and eat the plums from within. This sometimes is not observed until the Plum is cut into. When the caterpillar is fully fed it may exit the plum leaving a small hole. Infected fruit often ripen first. One way to help reduce numbers is with a pheromone trap. The pheromone lure gives off a scent that attracts male plum fruit moths. The new Plum Fruit Moth trap from Dragonfli uses a pheromone lure to draw the male moths into the trap. The system uses no glue, which means the traps can easily be re-used each year, if a new pheromone lure is added to the trap. The pheromone lure is attracting male plum fruit moths, so reduces the amount of eggs laid by females who fail to mate. This in turn helps reduces the Plum Fruit Moth population. One Plum Fruit Moth trap will cover an area of up to 12 trees. Our Plum Fruit Moth trap is supplied with a long-life lure, only one lure is required for the summer season of May-August. A replacement lure can be added in August to check for the presence of a second generation of Plum fruit moths in August-September. Replacement lures can be bought each year meaning your traps can be used for many years. On receiving your Plum Fruit Moth trap, remove the pheromone lure from its sleeve and put inside the small area in the top of the trap, which has a small black cover. Fill the trap with water and a little bit of a mild detergent like washing up liquid. Hang the trap in or near plum fruit trees. Place the trap out by mid May, Plum fruit moths normally fly from late May.
