Petunia plants offer a spectacular range of colours from deep black through to candy floss pink. These frost-tender bedding plants create a mass of cup shaped blooms in double or single forms, with ruffles and bi-coloured options available from late spring all the way through to the first frosts. Inject easy colour to a summer bedding scheme, and lift a patio or entryway with a hanging basket full of eye-catching flowers or plant up a window box to admire.
Surfinia petunias show great resilience to adverse weather and trail attractively. If you want a compact bushy type for a potted display or to fill a gap in the border, try the traditional large flowered petunias in our petunia giant collection – these blooms reach 10cm across on 40cm stems.
One of the most fragrant petunias around is ‘Damson Ripple’, a blackcurrant bi-coloured delight with a strong sweet scent. Like all the ‘frills and spills’ range, ‘Damson Ripple’ is bred in the UK to better cope with our unpredictable weather. Fill baskets and flower pouches with this sweet scented, ruffled bloom and hang near walkways and garden seats to best enjoy the scent wafting on the breeze.
All petunias are well suited to growing in a hanging basket! Trailing types drift over the sides whilst more compact varieties add a burst of colour to the top of a mixed basket. Try the award winning Petunia ‘Night Sky’ for its cosmic themed flowers. If you’re after joyous colours that’ll ripple over the sides of a basket, you’ll love a mix like Petunia 'Easy Wave™'.
If you want the look but don’t have time to plant a large basket, check out our range of pre-planted hanging baskets. Enjoy the scented Petunia ‘Frills and Spills’ with no mess or fuss. Simply hang your basket, water and watch as it transforms into a colour sensation in your back garden.
The longest trailing stems are produced by surfinia petunias. These petunias have compact, weather resistant flowers on stems that reach a whopping 90cm long.
To really make an impression, grow the climbing Petunia ‘Tickled Pink’. These plants have a colossal spread of 175cm. Train your plants up an obelisk or tower to make a pyramid of intense, hot pink flowers. Alternatively, plant your plugs into a basket and allow the stems to tumble in waves over the sides.
