1 x 18cm Potted Plant (KF7103)
Plant patio peach trees in containers holding at least 30 litres of good quality compost such as John Innes No.3. Alternatively plant them in rich fertile, well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position. A south facing position is preferable to provide the spring flowers with protection from damaging frosts. Plant fruit trees at their original soil level and water well.
Feed and water patio peach trees regularly throughout the growing season. Fruit and nut trees do not suffer weed competition well so keep containers free of weeds. If growing peach trees in the ground, keep grass and weeds clear from within a 30cm radius of the base of the tree. To improve fruiting, move peach trees in containers to a cool, bright, frost-free position in the autumn, keeping the compost just moist. Top-dress containers each spring with a slow-release fruit fertiliser. For patio trees grown in the ground, remove any suckers at ground level in spring, and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the tree. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer. Peach blossom is particularly susceptible to frost and may require protecting with a layer of horticultural fleece if grown outside.
Like all members of the Prunus family, Peaches should only be pruned in summer to avoid the risk of bacterial infection. Patio peach trees will require only occasional pruning to remove damaged, badly placed or diseased wood.
