This mixture of four enchanting colours, in shades and contrasts of blue, are not just pretty but the most sensational breakthrough in Violas for a decade. They were specifically bred for containers, baskets and ground cover, possessing a unique trailing habit. Above all they are wonderfully fragrant with a gorgeous, pervading sweet scent. Flowers appear in abundance and because they are tolerant to cold and heat, they can be grown all year round. Height: 2-3in Flowers spring/summer.
Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. The crystallised petals are great decorations for cakes and cookies, or they can be added straight to green salads for an injection of colour. For more details about edible flowers click here.

For summer flowers sow in late winter/spring 1.5mm (1/16 in) deep in good seed compost excluding light as darkness is beneficial. Germination usually takes 14-21 days at 18-20C (66-70F). Keep the soil just moist and avoid high temperatures which wilt prevent germination.
When seedlings are large enough, transplant and grow cool and plant out after hardening off in spring 15-23cm (6-9in) apart in most soils, sun or part shade. For late winter/spring flowering sow mid-summer, treat as above and plant out in the autumn, or sow in late summer, overwinter in a coldframe and plant out early spring.
