With gorgeous flowers, foliage and seedpods, this easy-to-grow annual has it all. Nigella papillosa 'African Bride' is a stunning variety of this quintessential cottage garden annual, bearing masses of pure white single flowers with contrasting deep plum-purple stamens. The exquisitely elegant flowers sit aloft a haze of airy, finely-cut foliage. They make excellent cut flowers and the foliage an excellent filler in bouquets – just be sure to leave some flowers on the plant to develop into handsome dark purple seedpods, which provide interest throughout autumn and are just as attractive and striking as the flowers! Try direct sowing love-in-a-mist in bold drifts to soften border edges. Height: 70cm (28in). Spread: 30cm (12in).
Culinary note: Love-in-a-mist seeds have a strong aroma and spicy taste, and can be used as a condiment or spice to flavour cakes, breads and curries.

Direct sow Nigella seeds outdoors where they are to grow from April to May. Choose a position in full sun on well drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, at a depth of 1cm (&frac;1/2”) and cover seed with its own depth of soil to exclude light. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Germination usually takes 14-30 days. When Love in a mist seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm (12”) apart.
Alternatively, sow Nigella indoors from March to April at a temperature of 18-29C (65-85F). When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
