Description

This showy shrub is popular on the continent for its extravagant panicles of vivid flowers that go on for months plus rich autumn colour. Lagerstroemia ‘Pink Velour’ is fully hardy, although it does need a sun-baked, sheltered spot in the UK to do its best. It is well worth indulging – against a south facing wall is perfect. You will be rewarded with a dramatic show of big, cloud-like panicles of magenta-pink flowers from June to September. The flowers have an unusual, crimped appearance as though fashioned from crepe paper and last for ages, providing a banquet for bees and other beneficial pollinators for months. Lagerstroemia ‘Pink Velour’ forms a large deciduous shrub or small tree with thick leathery leaves and attractive exfoliating bark. The leaves emerge burgundy in spring and provide an additional season of interest in the autumn when they blaze orange-gold. Height: 2.5m (8.2ft) Spread: 1.5 (4.9ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Plant Lagerstroemia in any rich fertile soil in full sun. Although reasonably hardy once established, Crepe Myrtle enjoys a hot sheltered position and is best grown against a south facing wall or as a specimen plant in the conservatory.
More Info
Feed and water Lagerstroemia regularly particularly when grown in containers. Crepe Myrtle plants will appreciate some protection from hard frosts throughout winter. Prune in winter or spring whilst dormant to remove and dead, damaged or misplaced stems and maintain a pleasing shape.
