Description

Houttuynia is a robust and versatile perennial. Plants are both moisture and drought tolerant, and will thrive in almost any position from sun to dappled shade.

The heart-shaped leaves of Houttuynia cordata 'Chameleon' are completely unique, with splashes of green, gold and red. When crushed, the foliage emits a pungent orange fragrance. Throughout mid-summer, the spreading stems are covered in pure white flowers. Houttuynia makes excellent ground cover through borders or around boggy pond margins. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 100cm (39"). Planting depth: Zone 1 & 2 to 10cm (4") below water level.

Culinary note: The leaves have an orange like smell and make a marvellous flavouring in salads. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
This hardy perennial is both moisture and drought tolerant, and thrives in almost any position from sun to dappled shade. Plant Houttuynia in any garden soil, or in the shallow margins of ponds with the crown to a depth of 10cm (4") below water level. In favourable conditions, Houttuynia will spread freely, but can be easily contained if planted in containers.
More Info
Feed and water Houttuynia plants regularly until fully established. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Houttuynia in Spring to maintain plant vigour.
