Description

Accent your garden with the refreshing green tones of Hellebore argutifolius. Its tall, upright stems provide interest at a height in garden borders or large container displays, displaying generous clusters of pale green blooms which emerge in late winter and remain looking fresh through spring. Its subtle and sophisticated colouring makes this a versatile choice for combining with other spring blooms of any colour. Resilient and unfussy, it thrives in sun or partial shade in any moisture retentive soil - planted in large groups it can help fill a tricky shaded woodland space with lush greenery. This wildlife-friendly plant has nectar-rich blooms which are great for early bumblebees. Height: 80cm (31"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Pot up hellebore plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. When plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Plant hellebores in neutral or alkaline soil, in dappled shade. Hellebores prefer a moist, humus rich, fertile soil that does not dry out in summer or sit waterlogged in winter. When growing hellebores on heavy clay or free draining gravel soils, add plenty of well rotted leaf mould or other organic matter to the soil prior to planting.
More Info
Water regularly until established. Mulch hellebores with well rotted manure or garden compost each spring. Hellebores resent disturbance after planting and may take some time to re-establish. However when clumps become overcrowded, lifting and dividing of hellebores should be undertaken immediately after flowering. Caution: Hellebore sap may irritate the skin and eyes. All parts are harmful if eaten.
