Description
A well known variety, popular for its coral pink and orange stems in winter. Throughout the rest of the year Cornus sanguinea 'Midwinter Fire' forms a pleasing shrub, producing ivory white flowers in summer, followed by clusters of blue-black berries. The orange and gold autumn foliage provides a spectacular prelude to its winter display. The upright stems are fine and twiggy, glowing beautifully in the pale winter sun. This compact, deciduous Dogwood is easy to grow, providing valuable structure and colour to winter borders. For the best colours, grow it in full sun. Height and spread: 2m (78").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Plant Dogwood in any moist, well drained garden soil, in full shade or part shade. Cornus is a very useful shrub, as it can also tolerate damp soils or an exposed position.
More Info
Feed and water dogwoods regularly until fully established. Once established, they will require less attention. To encourage plenty of colourful stems, Dogwood will need regular pollarding in early spring. Cut back all dogwood stems to 3 buds above soil level or to a permanent low framework. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant after pruning. Caution: Dogwood berries are harmful if eaten. Irritant to skin and eyes.
