A beautiful surprise to brighten up late autumn days, Camellia sasanqua 'Strawberry Swirl' begins to show its exquisite pink flowers from late October, continuing through November and December when little else is happening in the garden. The simple, single flowers are swirled in shades of strawberry and white set off with a central gold boss. Glossy, evergreen leaves provide a dark background that complements the flowers.
Camellia sasanqua 'Strawberry Swirl' makes a lovely feature for a container filled with ericaceous compost. Position it on the patio in front of a window and enjoy a splash of mood-lifting colour through the darkest months. When flowering has finished, the evergreen foliage provides colour and structure all year and is an excellent foil for summer displays. Alternatively, grow Camellia sasanqua 'Strawberry Swirl' in a woodland border to extend interest until late in the season. With an upright and open habit, it also suits training as a wall shrub.
This autumn flowering hybrid is much hardier than pure sasanqua species, although as with all camellias, it appreciates a sheltered position with shade from the early morning sun. Maximum height and spread: 4m (13ft).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Camellias occasionally with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as this may cause the buds to drop in early spring.
Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their roots from winter cold. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
