Description
‘Winter Jewel F1’ is an outstanding introduction in ‘autumn and winter greens’. Produces even sized, smooth, dark leaved ‘greens’ to 30 cm ( 12’’) leaf length which are very slow to heart up, eventually forming compact 250g ( 8 oz) loose heads. ‘Winter Jewel F1’ has superb winter hardiness, proved outstanding for its quality, yield and length of harvesting to April in the RHS overwintered/spring 2011 trial. Excellent flavour and bolting resistance. ‘Winter Jewl F1’ matures to harvestable ‘greens’ approximately 60 days from transplanting, and will remain in condition for many weeks.

More Info
Water cabbages regularly particularly during dry periods. Feed throughout the growing season with a high nitrogen feed. Hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing and bring insect larvae to the surface. Draw earth up around the base of each stem to prevent wind rock and improve the plants stability. Harvest Cabbage in late autumn and winter once the heads have matured. Culinary note: Vitamin rich cabbages are particularly high in iron and potassium, but also low in calories.
