How to Grow
Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the ground prior to planting Blackberries. Plant blackberry bushes in a sunny position in any well drained soil allowing a distance of 90cm (36") between plants. Firm in and water well. Primocane Blackberries should be pruned to 30cm (12") immediately following planting to encourage more shoots to be produced. Primocane varieties have an upright growth habit and do not require supports for their stems.
More Info
Water well for the first year until blackberry plants are fully established. Cover the plants with netting to protect the crop from birds as blackberry fruits begin to develop. Blackberries can be harvested from August onwards. Prune primocane Blackberry plants to ground level each February and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the canes. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer.
