Flowering Months

This medium-sized deciduous shrub is prized for its autumn colour. Aronia x prunifolia 'Brilliant' bears clusters of pretty white flowers in May and June which are followed by purple-red berries in autumn. As the berries ripen the foliage takes on fiery shades of orange and red, for a wonderful contrast.

Also known as the Purple Chokeberry, the tart berries of this Aronia are edible and are used to make jam, compotes and fruit pies. Low maintenance and easy to grow, Aronia even tolerates boggy soils. Height: 3m (10'). Spread: 2.5m (8').

How to Grow

Grow Chokeberry in a wide range of different soils, they can cope with drought conditions as well as waterlogged ground, once plants are established. They will grow very well in slightly acidic soils. Grow in sun or light shade.

Aronia plants require very little maintenance, just trim to fit space and remove any dead, diseased or damaged growth.
