Need some glamour in your Christmas displays or looking for the perfect seasonal plant gift? Bring Amarylis hippeastrum ‘Colibri Rascal’ to the Christmas party and luxuriate in its exotic, trumpet-shaped blooms and tropical colours that are sure to lift spirits when you are cooped up indoors and the weather is foul. Individual plants bear two or three stems, each carrying up to four spectacular blooms. Amarylis hippeastrum ‘Colibri Rascal’ makes a magnificent table centrepiece that will last for weeks. Height: 45cm (18in). Spread: 30cm (12in).

Place in a bright, warm position and water and feed regularly during active growth. After flowering, deadhead the faded blooms and cut away the old stems from their base, leaving the foliage intact. Continue to feed and water amaryllis bulbs until the leaves begin to yellow and die back and the bulb enters its dormant period. During dormancy, keep the compost just moist and move containers of amaryllis to a cool, dry position until active grown begins again. Container-grown amaryllis bulbs should only be repotted every 3 to 5 years as they resent root disturbance and prefer to be slightly pot bound.
