Description

From a basal rosette of glossy, linear leaves rise multiple strong stems topped by large, pink, spherical heads. Unlike other alliums, which only produce a single flowerhead from each bulb, Allium ‘Lucky Balloons’ bears a generous two or three, floating like a bunch of balloons over your borders! Allium are superb for creating striking vertical accents in borders and containers. Once planted, they’ll come up year after year, virtually taking care of themselves. The nectar-rich flower heads are attractive to pollinators and make excellent cut flowers, both fresh and dried as seed heads. Height: 60cm (24in). Spread: 20cm (8in).

How to Grow
Alliums thrive in free-draining soils in full sun. If growing in clay soils, add grit when planting to improve drainage. Avoid planting in cold wet soils as the bulbs are prone to rot in these conditions. Plant allium bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4”) and a distance of 10cm (4”) apart. A slow release fertilizer can be added to poor soils at the time of planting to improve fertility. When growing alliums, plant them where the leaves of other plants will cover the base of their stems. This will hide the old foliage which dies back before flowering begins.
More Info
Alliums require little maintenance. Leave stems of faded allium flowers intact to enjoy their spectacular seed heads in autumn. Divide overcrowded clumps of alliums after flowering. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
