Description

Alliums are an essential addition to the late spring and early summer garden. They create a stunning contrast of shape and texture when planted amongst herbaceous perennials, create vertical accents in borders and containers, and make excellent cut flowers. Perfect for the low-maintenance garden, alliums are very easy to grow on well-drained soil and will virtually take care of themselves. This bumper pack contains five fantastic varieties in a range of colours and sizes to add unique interest to your borders, containers and rockeries for year after year!

Allium Collection contains:

Allium ampeloprasum (15 bulbs) – Globe-shaped heads of tightly packed, very pale mauve, almost white flowers on tall, strong stems that make a great vertical accent in cottage garden borders. Blooming in June and July, Allium ampeloprasum is also great for cut flower gardens and naturalising in meadows. The striking flowerheads are great for drying for an even longer-lasting arrangement! Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 20cm (8").

Allium cowanii (15 bulbs) – Clusters of pure white, starry, long-lasting flowers that are perfect for cutting. Blooming in May and June, ornamental onion looks lovely planted in drifts at the front of a border or makes a great addition to mixed containers. Bees, butterflies and other pollinators are attracted to the nectar-rich, sweetly scented flowers. Height: 40cm (16"). Spread: 10cm (4").

Allium karataviense (5 bulbs) – A strikingly unusual allium from the mountains of Kazakhstan. Globe-shaped heads of starry, pinkish white flowers emerge in May and June on short stalks from between a pair of remarkable broad, glaucous leaves; themselves a spectacular feature. Ideal for rock gardens and makes a great dried flower. RHS AGM. Height and spread: 25cm (10").

Allium moly (45 bulbs) – A ray of sunshine! This vigorous and cheerful little allium produces dense clusters of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers from late spring onwards – sure to brighten up any corner of the garden. Loved by butterflies, Allium moly is ideal for the front of borders, rockeries and containers. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 5cm (2").

Allium Purple Sensation (5 bulbs) – The architectural blooms of these violet-purple alliums are sure to make a statement in your summer borders. Upright stems carry globes of starry flowers that measure up to 8cm (3”) across. Flowering only once in a season, the blooms of Allium ‘Purple Sensation’ are followed by skeletal seedheads for a spectacular autumn display. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 10cm (4").

Allium Caeruleum (10 bulbs) – Bright blue globes of starry flowers are carried on stiff upright stems in early summer. Punctuating sunny borders with architecture and a bright splash of colour, Allium caeruleum is easy to grow and makes a great cut flower too! Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 8cm (3").

Allium Graceful Beauty (10 bulbs) – Effortlessly tasteful - its large, starry blooms forming spherical flower heads in spring. Each gleaming white flower is blushed with palest pink providing a lovely contrast with its violet stamens. This hardy bulb is best massed together at the front of borders for a dramatic display or packed into patio containers in a prominent position. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 10cm (4").

How to Grow
Alliums thrive in free-draining soils in full sun. If growing in clay soils, add grit when planting to improve drainage. Avoid planting in cold wet soils as the bulbs are prone to rot in these conditions. Plant allium bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4”) and a distance of 10cm (4”) apart. A slow release fertilizer can be added to poor soils at the time of planting to improve fertility. When growing alliums, plant them where the leaves of other plants will cover the base of their stems. This will hide the old foliage which dies back before flowering begins.
More Info
Alliums require little maintenance. Leave stems of faded allium flowers intact to enjoy their spectacular seed heads in autumn. Divide overcrowded clumps of alliums after flowering. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
