Description
Masses of tiny flowers create flat plates of colour that balance on tall stems above the aromatic, feathery foliage. This low maintenance perennial provides an explosion of late summer colour to brighten the backs of herbaceous borders. Easy to grow, even on poor dry soils, Achillea millefolium 'Summer Berries' is ideal for wildlife gardens where it attracts butterflies and other insects. The vivid range of colours also makes yarrow a spectacular cut or dried flower. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Culinary note: The leaves of the yarrow can be used cooked or raw. They have a bitter flavour but are good in mixed salads and best used when young. They may also be used as a preservative or flavouring for beer. The flowers and leaves can be made into an aromatic tea. click here.

How to Grow
Plant out Achillea plants into any well-drained soil in full sun. Achillea plants dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting.
More Info
Stake achillea stems in late spring. Cut back faded achillea flowers to encourage a second flush in late summer. Yarrow plants are relatively short lived perennials that will benefit from regular division every 2 or 3 years to maintain their vigour. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps in spring. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
