The extreme weeping habit of Acer ‘Ryusen’ makes it a brilliant choice for small, narrow spaces. The branches sweep down almost vertically from the main stem and can be trained to create a horizontal canopy before being allowed to cascade. The palmate foliage emerges brilliant chartreuse in the spring before deepening in the summer. In autumn, Acer 'Ryusen' turns into a fabulous cascade of red, yellow and orange accompanied by red-winged fruit. Even through the winter months, its tracery of pendulous branches continues to provide a graceful feature in the landscape. Plant this slow-growing Acer into a large container or border alongside contrasting foliage textures such as Carex oshimensis or Hakonechloa for a Japanese-themed oasis. Height: 2m (6.5ft). How to Grow

Grow Acers in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade. It's important to give plants shelter from strong winds which can scorch the leaves.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until acer trees are well established. Protect plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter.
