Description
Exotic and intriguing! This beguiling Abutilon makes an alluring focal point for the conservatory or a sheltered spot on the patio. Trained as a standard, the arching stems form a loose crown of semi-evergreen foliage, mounted upon a clear stem. The pendant blooms dangle like fairy-lanterns from summer into autumn. Abutilon megapotamicum 'Red Trumpet' makes an impressive specimen plant for a container. Be sure to bring it into a frost-free conservatory or greenhouse over the winter months, to protect it from the cold. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 60cm (24").

How to Grow
Grow abutilon plants in any fertile, well drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. A warm south or west facing wall that is protected from cold winds and hard frosts is ideal. In areas where temperatures regularly drop below -5C (23F), abutilon plants are best grown in large patio containers and moved to a frost free position over winter. When growing abutilon in patio containers, use a loam based compost such as John Innes No. 2.
More Info
Feed and water regularly throughout the spring and summer. Abutilon plants do not tolerate overly dry soil and may drop their foliage under such conditions. Prune abutilon lightly in spring, removing any damaged or dead stems.
