Description

There are 101 ways that Alliums can make your spring borders a better place, and this collection is one of them! Alliums are an essential addition to the late spring and early summer garden. They create a stunning contrast of shape and texture when planted amongst herbaceous perennials, create vertical accents in borders and containers, and make excellent cut flowers. Perfect for the low-maintenance garden, alliums are very easy to grow on well-drained soil and will virtually take care of themselves. This bumper pack contains five fantastic varieties in a range of colours and sizes to add unique interest to your borders, containers and rockeries for year after year!

Allium Collection contains:

Allium 'Graceful Beauty' (25 bulbs) – Each gleaming white flower is blushed with palest pink providing a lovely contrast with its violet stamens. This hardy bulb is best massed together at the front of borders for a dramatic display or packed into patio containers in a prominent position. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 10cm (4").

Allium 'Purple Sensation' (3 bulbs) – The architectural blooms of these violet-purple alliums are sure to make a statement in your summer borders. Upright stems carry globes of starry flowers that measure up to 8cm (3”) across.  Height: 90cm (36”). Spread: 10cm (4”).

Allium 'Mount Everest' (3 bulbs) – Produces globes of more than 50 star-shaped blooms during June, just after the spring bulbs, but before the summer bedding comes into flower. You will be amazed at how beautiful these flowers can be, for the minimum of effort! Height: 1.2m (3.9'). Spread: 15cm (6").

Allium moly (40 bulbs) – A ray of sunshine! This vigorous and cheerful little allium produces dense clusters of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers from late spring onwards – sure to brighten up any corner of the garden. Loved by butterflies, Allium moly is ideal for the front of borders, rockeries and containers. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 5cm (2").

Allium sphaerocephalon (30 bulbs) – An understated allium with unusual oval-shaped, purple-green flower heads perched atop tall, slender stems that are great for cutting. Best grown in dense clumps amongst other perennials, Allium sphaerocephalon associates particularly well with swaying grasses. Flowering in May and June, it’s great choice for sunny borders and gravel gardens. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 8cm (3").

How to Grow
Alliums thrive in free-draining soils in full sun. If growing in clay soils, add grit when planting to improve drainage. Avoid planting in cold wet soils as the bulbs are prone to rot in these conditions. Plant allium bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4”) and a distance of 10cm (4”) apart. A slow release fertilizer can be added to poor soils at the time of planting to improve fertility. When growing alliums, plant them where the leaves of other plants will cover the base of their stems. This will hide the old foliage which dies back before flowering begins.
More Info
Alliums require little maintenance. Leave stems of faded allium flowers intact to enjoy their spectacular seed heads in autumn. Divide overcrowded clumps of alliums after flowering. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
