Description

Summer Fruiting.

An exceptional, high-yielding, mid season variety that produces a heavy crop between late June and late July. Just five of the large, deep red, berries can weigh as much as 30gm (1oz)! The tasty fruit holds well without spoiling and the spine free canes make easy picking. The large, succulent berries are excellent eaten fresh or from frozen.
All of our raspberries have been inspected by the Ministry of Agriculture for pests and diseases and certified. The bare root plants are hand graded and carefully selected before packing. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 50cm (20").

Estimated time to cropping once planted: 16-20 months.
Estimated time to best yields: 28-32 months.

How to Grow

Plant in rows 38cm (15in) apart, leaving 1.8m (6ft) between. Choose a well drained, sunny or semi-shaded spot, dig in plenty of well-rotted compost or manure in the autumn. Create a frame work of posts and wires for easy training.

These plants are lifted from the nursery field when dormant, and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. They often look dead on arrival, but they are just resting in the dormant period and will establish quickly for a strong start in the garden come spring. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots. Set these at the same level as they were in the nursery field – you should see a soil line at the base of the stem. Stake trees, taller shrubs and roses to prevent root disturbance.

More Info
Water summer fruiting raspberries well for the first year until plants are fully established. Loosely tie the stems in to their support wires as they grow. When berries begin to develop, place a net over the plants to protect the crop from birds. In autumn, prune the canes which have fruited over summer to ground level. Canes which have not fruited should be 'tied in' to their supports. Aim to have 6 to 8 fruiting canes per plant. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the canes in spring. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer.
