Autumn is a great time to plant up your borders and patio pots with a range of spring flowering bulbs, robust perennials and for establishing shrubs. We have some fabulous new varieties this autumn that are guaranteed to brighten up your spring pots and borders. Our experts are favouriting primroses and polyanthus this season. Take a look below to see some of our best-selling autumn planting varieties so far this year!
Bred by one of the most highly respected Hydrangea breeders, and a worthy winner of the coveted Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year 2014 award! Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Miss Saori’ is quite unique. Each fully double, white bloom is frosted with a soft rose edge, giving the large rounded flower heads a delicate, frothy appearance. The foliage compliments the blooms perfectly, taking on an attractive burgundy hue in spring and autumn that only adds to the appeal of this stunning mophead hydrangea. An exquisite specimen shrub for borders and patio containers where it will give a long season of interest. Hydrangea ‘Miss Saori’ makes a lovely cut flower too.
Grow evergreen and winter flowering clematis varieties to brighten up the garden in bleak months when little else is in flower. Montana types are great for the impatient gardener. They'll quickly smother fences with masses of summer blooms. Look out for customer favourite 'Mayleen'. For a bit of interest in your borders you can't beat a scrambling clematis like new variety 'Blue River' or a dwarf variety like 'New Love'. Autumn is the perfect time for planting clematis as the weather is cooler and the soil is moist meaning roots will be well established in time for Spring. This results in bigger and better displays for next year and also means you will save on watering!
"Clematis are so versatile, there's one for every area of the garden - on the patio, covering unsightly sheds or scrambling through borders." Michael Perry
